About dirt bike photo
Dirt Bike Photo is dedicated to photographing off road motorcycling in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. Most of the pictures are of motocross but cross country events and arenacross are also included.
The photographs are available for purchase as prints or digital files. All of the photographs are the copyright of the photographer, John Denniston, and are not to be downloaded or linked to without permission.
Since Dirt Bike Photo began in 2003, 35,000 pictures have been taken at local races and more than 16,000 can be viewed on this web site.
There are another 12,000 plus pictures in my archives from races in the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s which will be added to this web site as time permits.
About the photographer
John Denniston spent 35 years photographing for newspapers beginning with Edmonton Journal in 1968. His pictures have been published in the Edmonton Journal, The Vancouver Sun, The Vancouver Province, and a few were picked up by Life, People, Macleans, and many magazines devoted to his favourite sports, automobile and motorcycle racing.
He was part of the team that in 1995 turned the Vancouver Province into North America’s first newspaper with a completely digital photo department. John retired in 2002 after 30 years as a staff photographer and then photo editor at the Vancouver Province.
John began racing motocross in 1982 when he was 37 years old, never having ridden a motorcycle before. When he turned 40 he became a regular on the Oldtimers International Series winning the number one plate in the amateur class in 1990.
